Lighting The Beacon
for The Queen’s 90th Birthday
Thurs. April 21st 2016
Over 100 people for Boxford, Edwardstone and Groton turned up to join in the short ceremony celebrating The Queen’s 90th birthday. Boxford Scouts were on parade, bearing their standard. A letter from The Prince of Wales was read out, the National Anthem was sung, as well as Happy Birthday.
Kenny King, 93, the oldest resident in Boxford lit the Beacon and three cheers for Her Majesty rang out once the Beacon was lit followed by William Walton’s Crown Imperial. It was a wonderful village occasion. The last time the village Beacon was lit was in commemoration of The Queen’s Jubilee in 2012.
